Travis Becker, MKS and Kyle Gresham, IKORCC rocked the club last night with some blue print reading competition. The kids were challenged with reading the blue prints of the club building and finding specific locations. Did you know there are secret rooms you can only find by using the blue prints??? Nah, I just made that up, but it’d be cool if there were. They were also tasked with reading the blue prints of our storage shed and constructing a Lego model based solely on their interpretation of the blue prints. Everyone compared their models to the actual shed to see who got it right. What a great learning lesion. Thank you Travis and Kyle for all the planning and prep work you put into this session. Your dedication to teaching our youth really shows. Also want to give a big shout out to Kurt Beuchel, one of our board members for his continued support and participation in our trades program.

This week Darrell Esterline – Sheet Metal Workers Local 20, Tom Case – Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters Local 232 and Travis Becker – Michael Kinder & Sons engaged our members in discussions about the importance of safety and proper use of safety equipment. The club members learned how to read a tape measure and practiced taking measurements. Thank you, this was a great start to our fall program!

Fort Wayne Community Schools Career Center has partnered with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 166 apprenticeship program to teach welding to local high school students enrolled at the Career Center. The vision of the leadership of FWCS and Local 166 has brought about this ability to reach more students than was previously available. The 166 JATC program will provide the instructor and the facility for the program. Northeast Indiana is proud to have partners looking for ways to create opportunity for students across the area!

Garrett High School senior Preston Newman is working part of the day as an intern with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 166 welding apprenticeship program. This is giving students a big opportunity to find out first hand if this is a career for them.
This year we are sponsoring North Side High School athletics and we will have a table with career information at the home football games. The next game will be Friday, August 20 at 7pm. We will be set up right across from our banner on the concourse entrance.
