PROJECT BLUEPRINT

BGCFW: Project Blueprint Update: 3/30/2023

This week’s Project Blueprint training took the club kids on a trip to the Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 training center. Volunteers Greyson Mishler, Kody Grant and Bailey Odier gave the kids a tour of the facility and then demonstrated how designs are created with their AutoCAD system, and used the design to make the parts of a handy tool tray. Following the design instructions, the kids used  drills, hammers and other tools to assemble the trays. Our club members learned so much from this experience and had a great time working with the volunteers. A huge thank you to Darryl Esterline and the Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 for your committed partnership to teaching our youth about the trades.

Tonn and Blank Construction

The kids participated in a highly energetic program organized and conducted by Tonn and Blank Construction. The program also included volunteers from the FWCS Career Academy.

The kids constructed two push carts each with three storage levels with wheels on the bottom. Construction of the carts included cutting with the power saw, drilling, nailing, sanding, painting, measuring and leveling skills.

Tonn and Blank also provided  hoodies and each participant received a certificate for a personal pan pizza compliments of Pizza Hut.

BGCFW Project Blueprint Update: December 6, 2022

Jeramiah Hale from Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 presented an excellent lesson explaining the wide variety of products sheet metal workers contribute to the construction industry. They explained the different types of materials used, ranging from steel, aluminum, copper and other alloyed metals and what they are used for. The club kids were able to make personalized Christmas tree ornaments by etching a design with an engraving pen or by stamping their own message or design onto the ornament. The kids loved making these and were excited to take them home to share with their families.

Thank you Jeramiah and all your volunteers for this awesome lesson.
